 Arewa Dan Wake Food which means Son of Beans is a Northern Nigeria (Hausa People) recipe, it is very delicious meal and it is indigenous to the people of Arewa. We have different delicious food and Dan Wake is one of them because Dan Wake on its own is pretty tasteless just like any other dish. Here in arewa wedding there's an event we called Kauyawas day, so during this day there will be different foods and activities that will be done and Dan wake is the first and favorite thing they make. We can make it in less than 15 minutes if you can find already mixed flour, but when you don't have the mixed floor it will take about 20 minutes. Once you can lay your hands on the real dan wake flour, go ahead and mix with water. You don't even need too much water so you can mould it into balls. Nowadays dan wake flour can be purchased from local markets in Arewa and there are some selling it online 


Boil water in a pot and keep forming small balls with the mixed flour and throwing them into the boiling water. They should boil for up to 10 minutes and double in size, then Strain and serve, with some yaji, stock cubes, use vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and fresh tomatoes for topping, you can also add some hardboiled eggs. Arewa Dan Wake Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of flour
  • 3 teaspoons of Kuka (Baobab leaves)
  • And Kanwa (potash)
  • Water.
  • Sauce or yaji for serving 

Danwake recipe _ flour dumpling

First, you will need the Dan wake flour which you can to purchase in any Arewa market. Or you will use a combination of grounded beans powder 2 cups and kuka 3 teaspoons and potash 1 teaspoon. While mixing make sure you place a pot with water to boil, then when the water starts to boil, keep forming the paste into small balls and throwing them into the boiling water. And allow them to boil for about 10 minutes you will see that the balls will rise to the top when they are done. You then strain all the water and rinse with cold water, strain and turn it into a plates. When mixing Ensure that it's totally blend and it's not so watery because when it's too watery it cannot be able to cut and add to the hot water 



Dan wake is usually serve with Yaji which is also called ground cayenne pepper, you can also use Suya Pepper alternatively and choice vegetables, so you will just sprinkle some yaji, stock cubes, use vegetables like carrots, cucumbers and fresh tomatoes for topping. Other people serve Dan wake with sauce and even egg sauce.

Arewa Dan Wake Step by Step Guide With Pictures 

1. Put 2 cups of flour in a bowl.


2. Add two teaspoons of Kuka which is Baobab leaves


3. Then whisk 



4. Add kanwa which is known as potash



5. Add warm water



6. Beat the batter for atleat 8 minutes to 10 minutes



7. Put pot with water on fire and allow it to boil



8. Bring water and and small scoop.



9. Use the scoop and add the dough in small bits.



10. Stay close and cover it to cook or you can cook it uncovered.



11. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes.



12. Then remove it and add in to bowl of clean water.



Lastly Serve and enjoy with Yaji or jauce and other vegetables.
